Per the September 2023 PharmaCare Newsletter, pharmacies may claim influenza and COVID-19 vaccinations administered by nurses and pharmacy technicians during the 2023-24 flu vaccination campaign, as was permitted during the 2022-23 campaign.
The PHO orders permitting regulated and unregulated healthcare professionals to administer influenza and COVID-19 vaccinations remain in effect for this 2023/24 fall vaccination campaign.
Any nurse administering an influenza or COVID-19 vaccine in a B.C. pharmacy must be:
- Licensed by the B.C. College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM); i.e., they must be an active registrant of that college, OR
- Permitted under the November 4, 2022, Provincial Health Officer order, as student nurses or retired nurses, with supervision as per the PHO orders.
Any pharmacy technician (or pharmacy student) administering an influenza or COVID-19 vaccine must be supervised, as per the PHO orders.
Pharmacies can claim the vaccine administration fee of $12.10 for the influenza vaccine, and $18 for the COVID19 vaccine.
