Program information
As of July 2025, B.C. has expanded the eligibility criteria for publicly funded HPV vaccine and revised the age-based scheduling recommendations. The language in the HPV vaccine product page and HPV FAQ has also been updated to clarify eligibility includes individuals who self-identify as belonging to the Gay, Bisexual, and other Men who have Sex with Men (GBMSM) community.
To support the expanded eligibility and enhance access, pharmacists can now routinely order publicly funded HPV vaccine for eligible B.C. residents from public health.
Pharmacists should continue to offer publicly funded HPV vaccine to eligible clients, using inclusive, client-led conversations. For guidance on creating affirming and culturally safe environments, see the BCCDC Public Health Language Guide and Trans Care BC resources.
An HPV pharmacy locator map is available on the BCPhA website. The list is updated periodically. Those wishing to have their pharmacy added can fill out a listing form.

Eligibility criteria
The eligibility criteria for publicly funded HPV vaccine have been revised to:
- Individuals 9-26 years of age (inclusive).
- Individuals 27-45 years of age (inclusive) who self-identify as belonging to the gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men community, including Two-Spirit, transgender, and/or non-binary people (including those who are not yet sexually active and/or questioning their sexual orientation).
- Individuals 9-45 years of age (inclusive) living with HIV.
- Individuals who receive post colposcopy treatment for cervical dysplasia on or after July 31, 2025.
Publicly funded HPV9 vaccine is available for individuals to complete their series before their 27th birthday. As an exception, the BC Immunization Manual has been recently updated to clarify that individuals born in 1998-1999 who started an HPV series, (as well as eligible individuals born in 1979-1980), remain eligible to complete their publicly funded HPV9 series until December 31, 2026.

Pregnancy
BCCDC has removed pregnancy as a precaution. Per NACI, HPV vaccine can be administered in pregnancy. Evidence to date demonstrates no increased risk of adverse pregnancy or fetal outcomes associated with HPV vaccination during pregnancy. There is no known evidence nor biological mechanism to expect an increased risk of adverse pregnancy or fetal outcomes with HPV vaccination during pregnancy. The HPV vaccine may be administered to individuals who are breast/chest feeding.
Doses and schedule
Doses and schedule have been updated to include:
- 1-dose schedule for those under 21 years of age
- 2-dose schedule for those 21 years of age and older
- Individuals who are immunocompromised remain on a 3-dose schedule
- For doses administered on or after July 31, 2025, the minimum interval for a 2-dose schedule has been revised from 150 days to 24 weeks.

Changes to the number of doses in the HPV9 vaccine series in BC’s HPV9 immunization program are aligned with the National Advisory Committee on Immunization’s (NACI) Updated Recommendations on Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Vaccines. They have been implemented in several countries including the United Kingdom and Australia. They have also been implemented in Quebec and Yukon.
Appointment booking
The ImmsBC system will not be used for documentation or appointment booking at this time. All appointments will be booked as per your organizations’ established processes.
PharmaNet entry
- Administration of the publicly funded HPV vaccine is recorded in PharmaNet using PIN 66128117.

- Vaccine administration fee is $12.10 when providing publicly funded vaccines to eligible B.C. residents. See PharmaCare Administering publicly funded vaccines
CareConnect
- Access to CareConnect is highly encouraged in order to view a client’s HPV vaccination history.
Vaccine ordering
Pharmacies are to contact their local public health unit to order doses.
Procedures for each HA:
Fraser Health Procedures
- Pharmacies can place orders for HPV vaccines with their local health unit.
- Please Return an Immunization Record Return Form for doses administered to your local health unit weekly.
Northern Health Procedures
HPV Ordering Procedures:
- Please contact your local health unit.
- You will be able to order up to 6 pre-filled syringes of Nonvalent HPV Vaccine (Gardasil 9) to start the campaign.
- Re-orders can be placed when running low on vaccine based on anticipated demand.
Reporting Procedures:
- Please return the Northern Health Report of Immunization form when placing order for new vaccine. Please also include records of any privately funded stock that was used to support the publicly funded program.
Interior Health Procedures
- You can now place an order for HPV vaccine through vaccines@interiorhealth.ca.
- Report of Immunization form
- Please return a completed report of immunization form to vaccines@interiorhealth.ca.
Island Health Procedures
- Participating pharmacies can contact their local health unit to order HPV vaccines - Publicly Funded Vaccine Order Form
- No reporting forms are required at this time.
Vancouver Coastal Health Procedures
- Participating pharmacies can contact their local health unit to order HPV vaccines.
List of Participating pharmacies
As per Pharmacists and publicly funded vaccines in B.C. guide - Province of British Columbia, in exceptional circumstances, when there are no publicly funded doses on hand, pharmacies may use private supply and re-stock with publicly funded vaccines from their local public unit. Pharmacies are not to charge eligible patients for the vaccine.
Vaccine inventory and wastage
Reporting process: All wastage must be reported as per your local public health clinic procedure.
